Prescriptions in OpenEMR
OpenEMR can manage prescriptions whether you are printing them or sending them electronically through an integrated service. This guide will show you how to set up a patient's pharmacy and the two different workflows for finalizing a prescription.

Workflow 1: ePrescribing with Ensora
If your clinic is integrated with Ensora (NewCrop), you will send the prescription electronically. See eRx: Ensora Integration on setting up this integration.

Workflow 2: Manual entry in OpenEMR (Printing Prescriptions)
If your clinic does not use an external eRx vendor, you will print the prescription.
- In the Patient Chart > Prescriptions, create a prescription with the relevant details.
- Tip: There's an option at the bottom "Add to Medication List". When "Yes" is selected, this prescription will be added to the Medications list.
- After saving the the prescription, there's the option to Download or Print.
