Managing Patient Communications: SMS and Email

If configured, organizationss can may communicate with patients via SMS and email to send out information such as appointment reminders.

Each organization is responsible for managing their patient communication consent process for receiving SMS and email. Common processes including getting patient consent via intake form or by asking the patient during their visit.

SMS Communication

  1. Navigate to the patient chart.
  2. Go to Demographics > Choices > Allow SMS.
    1. Select "No" if the patient opts out or does not want to receive SMS communication
    2. Select "Yes" if the patient opts in and want to receive SMS communication
  3. Click "Save".

Note: If a patient receives an SMS message, they can reply STOP to unsubscribe at any time. This action will update their patient profile "Allow SMS" setting to "No".

Email Communication

  1. Navigate to the patient chart.
  2. Go to Demographics > Choices > Allow Email.
    1. Select "No" if the patient opts out and does not want to receive email communication
    2. Select "Yes" if the patient opts in and wants to receive email communication
  3. Click "Save"
